Abstract
This study evaluates safety performance in seaports through a scientometric and scoping analysis approach. Safety performance in seaports is critical for reducing accidents, enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring regulatory compliance, preventing environmental damage, and promoting a robust safety culture. However, challenges such as organizational fragmentation, inadequate risk assessments, seafarer fatigue, and the emergence of automation complicate safety management. The study utilized scientometric analysis to observe research trends, identify key contributing countries, and evaluate thematic focuses through author keywords. The scoping analysis followed a structured five-step framework to review existing literature, uncovering gaps and areas needing further research. The findings highlight a growing academic interest in seaport safety performance, driven by the need to address complex operational risks, regulatory compliance, and the integration of technological advancements. The scientometric analysis showed a significant increase in publications from 2015 to 2024, indicating heightened academic attention. The study identified key factors affecting safety performance, including effective handling of mass casualty incidents, labor abuse, environmental pollution, and the psychological well-being of port workers. The analysis emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to safety management that considers environmental, economic, social, and operational aspects. The study concludes that continuous improvement and adaptation in safety management practices are crucial for advancing safety standards, mitigating risks, and ensuring the well-being of seaport workers and efficient port operations. The integration of scientometric and scoping methodologies provided a robust framework for evaluating existing research and identifying key areas for future investigation, underscoring the need for a comprehensive and multi-faceted approach to enhance safety performance in seaports.
