Abstract

Argues that China's increasing influence in the Asia region is shifting regional dynamics, implications of which are still unravelling. Suggests that China's growing economic predominance, although still unmatched by its power in the political and security realms, is posing an emerging challenge to both the US and Japan. This is creating expectations that China could offer an alternative leadership not just in Asia, but generally the south.
