Abstract

This study investigates the use of x-ray computed microtomography (microCT) to evaluate the incorporation of bioaggregates—specifically macauba (Acrocomia aculeata) endocarp and jute fibers—into cement-based composites. MicroCT enables non-destructive, three-dimensional characterization of the internal microstructure, providing insights into the spatial distribution of the bioaggregates and their interaction with the cementitious matrix. This study evaluates the influence of bioaggregate incorporation on the composite. Additionally, considering the high-energy demands of the construction sector, the integration of sustainable materials such as bioaggregates and phase change materials (PCMs) is explored as a strategy to enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The findings demonstrate the potential of bioaggregates to contribute to more eco-friendly construction materials and underscore the value of advanced imaging techniques in sustainable materials research.
