Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is impacting various sectors, including the educational one, and particularly research and academia. This study analyzes the use of AI tools in the research methodology process, the advantages, disadvantages, and risks. A literature review was carried out in several scientific platforms, and it was found that the use of AI in academia is increasing, but lacking in ethical guidelines and agreements that can regulate its implementation, generating concerns about potential misuse and its impact on critical thinking. Nevertheless, when properly used, AI can offer great potential benefits and become an important ally for researchers.
