Critical Analysis of Water Consumption in Hotel Establishments in Mexico

Abstract

The objective of the article is to quantify the amount of water consumed in hotels in Mexico in the period 2002-2015, starting from the consideration that the volume consumed is a function: the number of establishments, the total of tourist arrivals, the average time of stay and occupation nights; for the calculation, the official information available for these variables was used and an average consumption of 300 liters per capita per day was assumed. It is concluded that the state of Quintana Roo is the entity where there is a greater consumptive use (23%) of the annual volume, said entity together with four others account for 44.92% of the total volume of water consumed and 55.08% is attributable to the remaining 27 states.
