Abstract

Three endogean carabids of the genus Geocharis Ehlers 1883 (Carabidae: Trechinae, Anillini) from Portugal, Geocharis coiffaiti n. sp., Geocharis sebastianae n. sp. and Geocharis rotundata n. sp., are described. The work provides diagnostic characters of these species, and in particular, the structure of male genitalia. Affinities with closely related species, as well as ecological and distribution comments are also included. A brief redescription and faunistic notes on Geocharis femoralis Coiffait 1968 and a key for the identification of the males of the species found south of the Tejo River in Portugal are also given. © 2006 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
