Abstract

Al-Sb-Zn ternary system was investigated in the three phase region Al-AlSb-Zn, using differential thermal analysis (DTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM-EDS). The position and temperature of the invariant eutectic L → AlSb + β-Al + η - Zn point inside Al-AlSb-Zn region was experimentally determined. To confirm the obtained results X-ray powder diffraction analysis or XRD was also done. All results were compared to the calculated isopleth phase diagrams using Thermo-Calc software (TCW 5). All calculations were done using the SSOL4 data base.
