Abstract

The ever-increasing need for sensors capable of detecting and monitoring toxic and flammable gases is presented and the various techniques available are introduced. Semiconductor devices based on tin dioxide, which potentially have many desirable characteristics, are discussed in detail with particular reference to the work in Swansea which has focused on the problem of selectivity. © 1994 the Indian Academy of Sciences.
