Hypertension is a relatively common finding during pregnancy, complicating up to 10% of pregnancies and rank as the second most common cause of maternal death in developed countries. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy represent an umbrella term that includes preexisting and gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and eclampsia. The goal of blood pressure control in hypertensive pregnancy disorders is to reduce the risk of end-organ damage, the maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. The aim of our study is to review the pathophysiology and management of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, according to the current guidelines.
