Abstract
The chemical characterisation of compounds present in the coating of birch pollen are described. Five fractions were prepared containing the compounds grouped according to their polarity. The major compounds found were n-alkanes (C17–C31) and n-alkenes (C25:1–C31:1) these accounted for approximately 80% of the extractable compounds. Other groups of compounds that were tentatively identified were methylketones, ethers, alcohols, and amino alcohols. © 1996 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
