Abstract
Concerning the conversion from laboratory scale tests for chemical processes to successful commercial-scale design, the following topics are discussed: major issues in chemical reactor scaleup; fundamental considerations (the rate concept; thermodynamics; physical data; and analysis, synthesis, and data handling); a correlation of rate information (communication and data taking; and rate equations); and uncertainties (a definition of the reaction system and a data base for scaleup).
