Uso de nomes populares para as espécies de Araceae e Dioscoreaceae no Brasil

Abstract

A origem dos nomes vulgares das espécies muitas vezes é obscura ou mesmo impossível de ser identificada. Face à semelhança que apresentam alguns tipos de sistema subterrâneo de Dioscorea com aqueles das espécies de Colocasia, observa-se em muitos trabalhos publicados na literatura brasileira uma certa confusão na terminologia usada para definir estruturas principalmente em algumas espécies de "inhame" e "cará". A padronização no Brasil da nomenclatura das estruturas subterrâneas destas hortaliças, à luz dos "Códigos Internacionais de Nomenclatura Botânica e das Plantas Cultivadas", permitirá melhor entendimento para pesquisadores, extensionistas, sociedades civis organizadas, importadores, produtores, comerciantes e consumidores, na identificação das espécies cultivadas de cada família botânica e na interpretação das informações.The origin of common names of species is sometimes obscure or even impossible to trace. Some species of Dioscorea and Colocasia presented similar underground organs and in works published in Brazilian literature we find certain confusion in the definition of the terminology of these structures. This happens especially in the case of certain species of "inhame" and "cara". The standardization in Brazil of the nomenclature of underground organs of these vegetables under the rules of the "International Codes of Botanical Nomenclature and Cultivated Plants" will permit a better understanding to researchers, farmers, organized civil societies, producers, tradesman and consumers, in order to promote the identification of cultivated species of each botanical family and interpretation of the information.
