Abstract

The Sanctuary of Fauna and Flora Iguaque (SFFI) is a protected area by Natural National Parks of Colombia (NNP), belonging to the Colombian Andean Region that includes paramo and Andean forest ecosystems. The aim of this study was to access the water quality of Mamarramos stream, located in SFFI and formed by the confluence of the Francos and Carrizal streams, source of supply of the region communities. Three days of sampling were carried out in dry season, at ten monitoring points. Biological indexes from the species of macroinvertebrates collected, physicochemical indexes and the ecological quality index (EQI) were calculated. A total of 7 521 individuals distributed in eight classes, 16 orders y 57 families were found. Leptoceridae (19%), Calamoceratidae (11.8%) and Psephenidae (10.8%) were the families with the highest frequency. The results confirmed the good water quality of the streams which is not affected by the in situ wastewater treatment systems.
