Talent identification in soccer

Abstract

Perceptions of talent identification in soccer are diverse and issues are complex with no consensus of opinion regarding appropriate theory and practice. This review defines and identifies key elements of the talent identification process and appraises contemporary research concerned with identifying important predictors of talent in soccer. Physical, physiological, psychological and sociological research is reviewed in an attempt to provide a multidisciplinary solution to talent identification. Limitations in previous research are addressed and potential avenues for future research highlighted.
