Abstract
Abstract Facework reflects the communication strategies that people use to establish, sustain, or restore a preferred social identity to others during interaction. Concerns for positive versus negative face and speaker versus hearer concerns motivate different strategies by which to manage or repair desired identities via communication. Thus, face management and negotation is not a static process, but is rather dependent on the dynamics of the individuals and experience of interaction.
