Three types of base metal combination are distinguished in diffusion bonding; viz, the solid solution, the two phase, and the intermetallic compound type. Diffusion bonding in hydrogen atmosphere was carried out on Cu-Ni, Cu-Ag, Cu-Al, and Fe-Al couples. The effect of bonding temperature and bonding time on bonding strength was determined, and the mechanism of bonding is discussed based on metallographic investigations.
