Abstract

The grid integrations of high shares of wind energy requires knowledge of the temporal pattern of the power flows on all time scales. Whereas this information on both, hourly and secondly time scales has been extensively studied, fluctuations in the time scale of several minutes are up to now only sparsely analyze in a systematic way. As a contribution to bridge this gap, this paper gives results from an respective analysis performed on the basis of wind speed data from locations at the Norwegian western shore, dealing with both, data from an off-shore and an on-shore location. Focus of the analysis is the inspection of the distribution of the increments in the series formed by 500s and 600s averages of the off-shore and the on shore data, respectively. A model as used for the analysis of high-frequency turbulence data is tested for is applicability to reflect the distribution characteristics of the increments in the present sets. Depending on the wind speed range, its applicability can on one hand be confirmed for increments starting from wind speeds close to the center of the data set. On the other hand a heuristic model has to be used to cope with the distributions of the increments starting from wind speeds closer to the edges of data set.
