Abstract

A recently published paper in the Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences by Sookhan et al. (2018) draws attention to the significance of the Oak Ridges Moraine (ORM) in the glacial landscape of southern Ontario. Based on a high-resolution digital elevation model (DEM), Sookhan et al. (2018) provide an interpretation for the origin of streamlined landforms and the origin of the ORM. The streamline landforms are interpreted to be mega-scale glacial lineations (MSGLs) formed by fast-flowing ice streams. It is suggested that the ORM was deposited between two converging coeval ice streams. The authors further suggest that their interpretative model should form a new paradigm for fieldwork in southern Ontario and reinterpretations of the event stratigraphiphy of the area.
