Abstract

Agricultural land-use decreases the net terrestrial uptake of atmospheric carbon that is induced by the CO2-fertilization. The reversion of the land to nature that may be possible due to an increasing crop yield would not increase this net uptake while the energy input into agroecosystems grows proportionally to the yield. © 1997, The Society of Agricultural Meteorology of Japan.
