Adiponectin: Good, bad, or just plain ugly?

Abstract

It has been suggested that adiponectin has antiatherogenic, anti-inflammatory, and insulin-sensitizing properties. However, studies in humans have reported inverse as well as positive associations between adiponectin concentrations and disease states. This Commentary discusses the apparent conflict in the literature. © 2008 International Society of Nephrology.
