Single crystals of UTe2 were grown by the chemical transport method using iodine as the transport agent. X-ray single crystal diffraction patterns confirmed that UTe2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal structure (space group Immm(# 71)). The magnetic susceptibility is highly anisotropic, reflecting the crystal structure. The effective magnetic moment μeff = 3.2-3.7μb/U, obtained above 150 K, is close to the value of 3.6 μb/U in the localized 5f2 or 5f3 configurations. © 2006 The Physical Society of Japan.
