Los derechos humanos de las personas mayores

Abstract

Como sujetos de derecho, las personas mayores son tratadas en forma reforzada en la cultura jurídica de los derechos humanos. Por su condición de integrantes de un grupo vulnerable, son titulares de un conjunto de derechos humanos por el Derecho Internacional de los Derechos Humanos, derivados de su particular situación en la vida social, debido al proceso de envejecimiento que todos padecemos en cuanto seres humanos. Este tratamiento reforzado a los derechos de las personas mayores por el Derecho Internacional de los Derechos Humanos vincula a los Estados Constitucionales de Derecho, a sus autoridades y al sector privado, todo para garantía de que la vida humana sea digna y libre en todos los estadios de la existencia. Por otra parte, la democracia constitucional, como la de nuestros Estados de Derecho, obliga a que la democracia se realice por medio de la promoción, el disfrute, la protección y la garantía de los derechos humanos de las personas mayores.The elderly, as subjects of law, are treated in a reinforced manner in the legal culture of human rights. As members of a vulnerable group, they are entitled to a set of human rights under International Human Rights Law, derived from their particular situation in social life, given the aging process that we all suffer as human beings. This reinforced treatment to the rights of the elderly by the International Law of Human Rights, binds the Constitutional States of Law, their authorities and the private sector, all to guarantee that human life is dignified and free in all stages of existence. On the other hand, constitutional democracy, like that of our States of Law, obliges democracy to be realized through the promotion, enjoyment, protection and guarantee of the human rights of the elderly.
