Abstract

Three tasks were used to measure the effect of changing the illuminant on color appearance to predict how observers perceive, describe, and match colors. In the first task, observers adjusted a surface to appear achromatic. In the second task, observers performed asymmetric matches. In the third task, observers named colors. The same observers and stimulus conditions were used for all three tasks.
