Analysis of Yandex Translate translation quality of new items from Indonesian to English

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the quality of translation in news item text that were translated from Bahasa as the source text into English as the target text made by Yandex Translate. The sample data was taken from four popular online news website from Indonesia (1) Detik.com, (2) cnbcindonesia.com, (3) bbc.com and (4) tempo.co. The samples were selected using random sampling technique. The quality of translation was assessed using assessment scale adapted from Nababan. The analysis of translation in this study occured in each of the sentences or pharagraphs of the texts. The data gathered were analysed descriptively by using qualitative approach. The findings of the analysis showed that there were 41 data found from the sample of data. The first discussion of these findings with the detail result, it was accurate 13 (24%) from 41 total data, less accurate 18 (44%) and not accurate 10 (32%). The second is about acceptability with the detail result is acceptable 34% (14), less acceptable 61% (25), not acceptable 5% (2). The last is about readability with detail result is high readability level 51% or 21 data and 49% with 20 data from 41 total data.
