Abstract
A case study examines the motivation for forwarding information technologies in the context of financial sector reforms, and identifies the sources of institutional resistance to their adoption, using economic conditions in Nepal as an example. To date, institutional obstructions have been sufficient to slow the pace of technological innovation in the Nepalese financial sector. There is a compelling case for the interlinked advance of financial sector reforms and the technological infrastructure needed: computers, trained technicians, communications networks, and information systems. To facilitate progress, it will be necessary to identify a consultancy with the ability to provide the right mix of technological and economic knowledge.
