Abstract

Ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid has proved successful in treating wells whose capacity to produce has been reduced because of calcium sulfate scale. Under proper conditions, this chemical chelates the scale and restores the producibility of the well. Although experiments are being conducted on the prevention of scale deposition, it appears that removal may prove to be as effective as prevention, and more economical as well. The success ratio of the EDTA treatment in% this case has been in excess of 80%, and the payout is usually less than 30 days.
