Abstract

1. 1. Studies carried out on extract of kidneys showed that the activity carnosinase is different in various species on animals. The highest activity of the enzyme was observed in the hen, lower in the rabbit and pig, and the lowest in the rat. 2. 2. It was also found that the activity of carnosinase in liver extracts is always lower than in kidney extracts: in the hen by about 15 times, in the rabbit by 7 times, in the cat by 4 times, and in the rat by almost 3 times 3. 3. An enzymatic preparation with an activity over 11 times higher as compared to an initial extract (in the presence of Mn2+ ions) was obtained from kidney extract of sheep, by ethanol fractionation at pH 6·0. © 1975.
