Some Reflections on Theology and Popular Piety: A Fruitful or Fraught Relationship?

Abstract

The article offers the author's insights on the relationship between popular piety and theology. He says that theology serves as a corrective force to popular piety, which can go astray if disconnected from the Christian community life and the doctrine. He defines popular religion as the doctrine's reception and expression by communities and individuals.
