Abstract

Melioidosis is an infection caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei, occurring in patients with underlying medical conditions. An extensive literature search did not reveal any reports of Burkholderia in association with Hansen’s disease. We present here a case of a 34 year male with lepromatous leprosy with recurrent type 2 reaction presenting with right iliopsoas abscess due to Burkholderia pseudomallei; he was treated successfully with meropenem and doxycycline. This is the first case report of Burkholderia pseudomallei abscess coexisting with Hansen’s disease.
