Abstract

This letter concerns the paper “An approximate transfer function for the dual-resonance nonlinear filter model of auditory frequency selectivity” [E. A. Lopez-Poveda, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 114, 2112–2117 (2003)]. It proposes a correction of the historical framework in which the paper is presented. Additionally it mentions some general problems associated with filter-bank models, and it discusses the validity and usefulness of the “transfer function” concept for nonlinear filters.
