Abstract

The study described examined the naturally occurring THM precursor organics in the Iowa River. Studies were also conducted on THMs formed during chlorination of well water, on altering the point of chlorination at the University of Iowa's lime softening water treatment plant, and on the effects of solar rays on THM formation. The contribution of organic pollutants into the basin streams from industrial and municipal sources was found to be small.
