Abstract

A flash flood or a rapid onset flood refers to short duration flooding with a comparatively high peak discharge of water in a particular place. Flash flood occurs within a few hours of heavy rainfall, rapid snowmelt or after a sudden glacier lake outburst or embankment failure or very rapid break up of an ice block which is due to rapid increase in temperature.
