Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify the effects of educational games on the fifth grade students’ motivation to learn science. The participants of the study were 43 fifth grade students attending a randomly selected secondary school in a western province of Turkey during the school year of 2016-2017. The study was designed as a pre- and post-test experiment and control group research. In the experiment group, educational games were used as teaching activities. The control subjects were taught science course through traditional teaching activities based on the science education program. In order to reveal their motivation level of learning science a scale entitled “science learning motivation scale” developed by Dede and Yaman (2008). Because of it has been determined that educational play application positively influences the motivation to learn science in science education. Based on the findings obtained several suggestions were developed concerning future studies.
