Abstract
Strongyloides stercoralis is a very unusual parasite because it has the ability of reproducing itself within the human host. This explains the persistence of the helminth infection for many years. In this review, an up to date is done regarding different aspects of this pathology related to immunobiology, diagnosis and treatment. Emphasis on the possible relationship with infection by HTLV-I virus is made. © 1998 Corporación Editora Médica del Valle.
