Abstract

This paper describes a unidirectional television receiving antenna of small size to be used in urban areas. This antenna consists of a two-element phased-array which is fed through a hybrid circuit, a phasing circuit, and a matching circuit to obtain unidirectivity over the VHF television band. The antenna is driven so as to show a unidirectional radiation pattern. Comparison of the measured directivity pattern with the theoretical analysis agrees well. The gain of this antenna is rather small because of its small size, but the radiation pattern in E-plane is similar to an 8-element Yagi-antenna used for television reception. So, this antenna can be used instead of a multi-element Yagi in the area of high or medium field strength level.
