Abstract

A detailed review about the association of diet with overweight and obesity is extensively discussed in this chapter. The causes and symptoms of overweight and obesity, diet-related treatment of overweight and obesity are discussed. Also, possible methods of reducing obesity and overweight are proposed at individual level, via research and development as well as through the food industries in form of consumption and production of healthy food products. Food and food products such as fruit and vegetables, high fibre meals, high fibre snacks, high fibre drinks, whole grain meals, etc. at predetermined levels of consumption should be encouraged globally. Several nutritional campaign or education against overweight and obesity needs to be conducted particularly in most developing countries in Africa where overweight and obesity is seen as an index of affluence and quality life.
