Abstract

The pot experiment was conducted in the wire canopy of the University of Kerbala -Agricultural Division to study the effect of potassium fertilization and the quality of irrigation water and sprinkling with Ascobin and their interference in the activities of some antioxidant enzymes of the growing Zea mays L. plant in the sandy loam texture soil during the agricultural season of 2017-2018 for spring and fall growing season .Three levels of potassium fertilization are (0, 100, 200) Kg. ha-1 and three levels of salinity are (1, 3, 6) dS m-1 and the third factor included spraying plants with Ascobin (ascorbic acid + citric acid, 2:1) and the amount of (0, 300, 600) mg. L-1 for two stages; the first stage at 6 leaves(21 days after germination), and the second stage at 12 leaves(70 days after germination). This experiment included the 81 experimental units with the complete random design (CRD) in three replicates. The results showed a significant effect on the factors involved in the study and its effects on the activities of the antioxidant enzymes: Catalase enzyme (CAT), Peroxidase enzyme (POD) and Superoxide dismutase (SOD). The results also showed increased enzyme activity when salinity levels increased. The results also showed the possibility of using the drainage water to irrigate Zea mays when spraying with Ascobin.
