Exploring Literacy In Our Own Backyard: Increasing Teachers’ Understanding of Literacy Access through Community Mapping

Abstract

The article reports on a four-year action research project that investigated children's literacy community as reported by their own teachers. The hands-on approach used by in-service teachers in discovering community literacy resources through community literacy mapping is described. The findings of the research project and impact on the work of in-service teachers are discussed.
