Abstract
The prospects for the removal of restrictions on world trade in textiles in consequence of the signing of the Final Act of the Uruguay Round are assessed. The possibility that new barriers to trade will be set up following the phasing out of the restrictions on MFA products, allowing the MFA to live on in another guise, is considered. Factors influencing the attitudes of the EU countries are outlined.
