Abstract

This is the second edition of this book and, apart from being more up to date, presents a much more comprehensive overview of paleoclimatology and the record of climatic change during the Quaternary than the previous edition. All sections have been revised and updated. Noteworthy changes include new material on dating (calibration of the radiocarbon timescale, amino acid geochronology, thermoluminescence, optically stimulated luminescence and infrared stimulated luminescence, new chapters on ice cores, marine sediments and ocean circulation, new sections on corals, alkenones, loess, lake sediments and greatly revised chapters on pollen analysis, tree rings and historical records. Also included is a new chapter on paleoclimate models, emphasising the increasing use of general circulation models in paleoclimatology.
