Abstract

This investigation seeks to know citizens' political approaches to democracy and its institutions in Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela. During the last two decades these countries have experienced deep changes in their political systems that affected the relationship between citizens, their political representatives and the State. In this context it is important to understand current stances towards representative political institutions, and which factors, apart from political change, might help to explain them. Using 2010 survey data from the Latin America Public Opinion Survey and a combination of multivariate statistical methods, we test if the political disaffection theory might be applied to the selected cases.
