Abstract

The Iowa Radon Lung Cancer Study (IRLCS) was a multiyear (1992-1997), population-based, case-control epidemiological study that evaluated the association between residential 222Rn exposure and the incidence of lung cancer among women in Iowa. During the course of the IRLCS, 936 alpha track detector measurements were made for quality assurance purposes (spikes, duplicates, blanks). This report summarises the accuracy and precision of the 222Rn measurements made by alpha track detectors. These detectors exhibited good accuracy and precision during the course of the study and met United States Environmental Protection Agency standards for performance.
