Abstract

Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is a rare complication of pregnancy and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in both mother and fetus. Its exact incidence is unknown, 200 300 cases have been published in the world literature. Physiological changes in calcium-phosphate metabolism in pregnancy may partially mask changes due to primary hyperparathyroidism and may thus make it difficult to diagnose milder forms of primary hyperparathyroidism in pregnancy. For treatment we decide between a conservative approach usual for milder forms and a surgical procedure for severe and symptomatic forms.
