Abstract

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is one of the most commonly used techniques in reproductive medicine and together with extracorporeal fertilization, e.g. in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) is the most important therapy option for couples with undesired childlessness. The methods of IUI have been improved in recent years, the techniques of sperm purification have been modified, the monitoring of cycles optimized through induction of ovulation, e.g. ovulation induction with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and new pharmaceutical products for stimulation have been developed. © Springer-Verlag 2012.
