Da casa à nação: passado, memória, identidade

Abstract

Este artigo analisa de modo sintético processos de construção da identidade, que implicam determinados usos do passado e da memória, em dois âmbitos distintos: o da casa, entidade definida pela relação entre família e património, e o da nação. Depois de constatar a existência de analogias na construção identitária destes dois colectivos, avança a hipótese, alicerçada na história dos estados-nações da Europa Ocidental, de o modelo da casa ter sido uma das fontes que permitiu imaginar a nação.This article briefly analyses some of the processes of the construction of identity, which imply the use of the past and memory in two different areas: the household, an entity defined by the relationship between family and patrimony, and the nation. After positing evidence of the analogies between the construction of identities in these two fields, the article puts forward the hypothesis, grounded on the history of the nation-state in Western Europe, that the household is one of the models that made the imagining of the nation possible.
