Abstract

Diabetes nurses and observant patients have long known that the technique of injection is critical to the successful use of insulin, but the medical community at large and most insulin-injecting patients remain unaware of the hows and whys of proper technique. The Second Injection Technique Workshop, held in Barcelona, brought together over 90 injection experts from across Europe and the world. This paper highlights major findings in this emerging field as well as practical guidelines and recommendations. Epidemiologic findings on current injection practice are presented and areas meriting future study are outlined. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
