Abstract
In Brazil there are two groups of conservation units (UCs), those of integral protection and those sustainable use. The propose of this article is to present the categories of UCs, to define traditional peoples and their struggles for a balanced environment, delving into the challenges of artisanal fishermen in favor of their traditional territories. For this, the focus of the analysis was on the Guaratiba State Biological Reserve (RBG) and its buffer zone, which we found with fishermen. A bibliographic and legislation survey was carried out on the subject, concluding on the importance of organizing traditional communities and the relationship between society and nature.
