Abstract
The introduction of electronic health records (EHRs) and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices with the rapid digitisation of healthcare have also been plagued by age-old problems of security breaches, poor interoperability and inadequate consent management in legacy systems. Blockchain became a new paradigm of decentralized trust, immutable logs, and access control via cryptography. We Examined Blockchain Applications In HealthcareThis paper offers a structured review of the blockchain applications in healthcare across four dimensions (1) security and privacy,(2) consent management,(3) real-world implementations and(4) challenges to adoption. We provide a synthesis of recent research on frameworks, architectures, and deployments on public, permissioned and hybrid systems with an overview of their strengths and limitations. Abstract Blockchain has big potential to improve data integrity, patient empowerment, and interoperability according to our analysis. Nonetheless, scalability, governance and regulatory compliance still represent pervasive roadblocks. We believe this review will help the field of blockchain-enabled healthcare to move toward robust systems by identifying research gaps, especially related to integrated consent enforcement, duplicate record detection, and privacy-preserving analytics.
