Abstract

The changes in Western societies in recent decades constitute a new way of responding to the provision of care that has been defined in terms of crisis. This new organization exacerbates existing gender inequalities and generates new asymmetrical power relations while, at the same time, it also offers opportunities for redefinition of domestic work and care. The article analyzes care crisis in relation to the social distribution of donated time in the domestic-family domain, as well as its significance and representations (moralization and reciprocity). For this purpose, it uses the quantitative data produced by Time Use Budget’s Survey of the Basque Statistics Institute-Eustat and material generated through focus groups.
