Abstract

The paper discusses the essential properties of presupposition and then makes a comparative analysis of Chinese and English presupposition triggers. The paper finds that while many presupposition-carrying expressions are semantically and pragmatically the same in English and Chinese, the realization of presupposition expressions may differ in the two languages. © 2013 ACADEMY PUBLISHER Manufactured in Finland.
